Gilgamesh was distraught over this and felt he deserved to be the one punished instead, but Enkidu urged him not to cry. They destroyed the beast but were punished for doing so - Enkidu’s clay body started to fall apart. Angered Ishtar requested that the gods send the Bull of the Gods to punish both Gilgamesh and Enkidu. The goddess, Ishtar proposed to Gilgamesh, but she was rejected by him. And from that moment, Enkidu believed in its own sense of self. But Gilgamesh argued that Enkidu was not a tool but a friend.
